Membership Benefits
International Reading Association (IRA) members are part of a worldwide organization that provides outstanding professional development and supports excellent teaching, critical research, and a lifetime reading habit. As a member of the International Reading Association, you will have available all the membership opportunities of that organization. As a member of the South Central Literacy Council (SCLC), you will also have the opportunity for the following:
- Connecting - Joining a diverse group of professionals who share a passion for literacy, instruction, and student achievement. The SCLC will be able to expand professional relations and transform formal and informal learning opportunities.
- Leadership - Teaching and learning in classrooms settings can be an isolating career, but volunteer-led professional organizations like the SCLC develop and grow leadership skills that can be applied to a variety of areas.
- Community Building - Councils engage whole communities in literacy awareness campaigns through recognition programs, community service initiatives, and special projects.
Becoming a member of the SCLC
If you wish to become a members of the South Central Literacy Council (SCLC), please fill out the contact form below. In the comment section please provide the following information:
Executive/Leadership - This is probably the most active role of the organization. The executive/leadership are involved in organizing meetings and projects as well as the direction and structure of committees and the council. The SCLC is just being formed so we are currently looking for individuals who are willing to be involved at this level.
Committee Volunteer - The SCLC will require members who are willing to sit on committees to organize special projects such as membership, newsletters, professional development and other projects that fall under the mandate of the council. Members can choose to be involved in as many or as little committees as they wish. This is an excellent opportunity to actively contribute as a leader to literacy in our region.
Basic - If you do not wish to be involved in committee work or as an executive/leader member, you can indicate that you would like to be a basic member and attend general meetings if you can or just take advantage of the opportunities available to connect. It is also good to note that the number of members of the SCLC directly affects the opportunities available to this Council from the IRA and the BCLC. If you already a member of the IRA, please join us! As a basic member you will still have the opportunity to increase your involvement if you wish and as your time commitments might allow you!
